What we do...
Home

The number of abandoned or unwanted pet birds is nearing crisis proportions in comparison to the resources available to handle them. Most municipalities or counties have some form of animal shelter. However, these programs are usually tailored to mammals such as cats and dogs and are ill equipped to deal with the special needs of pet birds, particularily the larger species such as parrots. Tragically, they are usually so overwhelmed that euthanasia is more often the fate of these animals then adoption. In many areas, private organizations have stepped forward and established excellent rescue, sanctuary, and adoption programs for dogs and cats but they are, well... up to their ears in dogs and cats. Our original hope was to do volunteer work at a rescue dedicated to exotic birds, but after searching with avian welfare organizations all the way to the national level, we found no record of such an organization in this area. This is what lead us to found PARS and to do what we do.

Shelter / Rescue Parrot owners sometimes simply need to find their pet parrot a new home. Whatever the reason, if your bird needs a new home we are here to help.
Sanctuary Life-time sanctuary is available to birds that are not suitable for adoption due to serious behavioral or medical problems. In this section, we discuss such circumstances and how PARS can help.
Adoption If you are interested in adopting a bird, visit this section for details on our adoption programs.
Outreach Drawing the publics attention to the rapidly growing problem of unwanted, abused, and neglected exotic birds throught community education and outreach programs. Read about it here.
Conservation PARS, as an organization, is just as concerned about and dedicated to the welfare and preservation of parrots living in the wild as we are those living in captivity.
