Sanctuary
Home
You may request sanctuary for your bird if you wish. Sanctuary simply means that your parrot will remain with us as one of our flock instead of being made available for adoption. There are two common reasons for sanctuary.

The most common reason for sanctuary is unsuitability for adoption. This is usually due to a unique medical problem or disability requiring special handling or the bird that simply wants to be "a bird among birds" and desires nothing whatsoever to do with humans. It is our evaluation process that leads to the decision to place them in sanctuary . Hopefully, with work and time, the problem can be corrected and the bird placed for adoption. However, it is fact that most of the time, the bird will remain with us.
Due to the limitations of our resources we regret that, for the foreseeable future, we can no longer accept birds into this program based simply on the owner's wishes, regardless of how much the owner is willing to pay. Until such time as we can move into larger facilities, admissions to Sanctuary must be limited to only those birds that are truly unsuitable for adoption.

When we accept a parrot for sanctuary, and we do, we are making the same life-time commitment to this bird that we do to our own. However, every cage occupied by a sanctuary bird is one less cage we have available for an abused, neglected, or abandoned bird. I will tell you frankly that there are limits to our resources so we are very selective in granting sanctuary. When possible, we like to see each parrot that comes to us happy in a new home where they can receive loving, one-on-one attention and care. Don't let this discourage you though. If you feel that sanctuary is in your birds best interest, we will be happy to discuss sanctuary options with you.
