People make mistakes, interest wanes, lives change, fortunes turn for the worse, health fails, life itself comes to an end. There are many reasons why people must part ways with their pet and we realize that the permanent separation of a person and their pet can be a stressful ordeal and we try to make the transition as easy as possible for you and your bird.

It is our policy at PARS to render assistance in a non-judgement manner with respect and concern for both the owner and their bird. Regardless of the reason that you must part with your parrot, we are here to help you find the best possible new home for your bird.

It is the owner's responsibility to transport the bird to PARS location for surrender. Please note that a cash donation is expected at the time of surrender to help offset the expense of caring for your bird during it's stay at PARS.

If you choose to surrender your bird to PARS for adoption, we will make every effort to find a great new home for it through our carefully screened Adoption Services process. Until the right home is found, the bird will live with us or in the private residence of one of our foster care volunteers. Each volunteer is an experienced, carefully selected parrot owner that provides foster care to a very small number of birds so that each bird receives the one-on-one attention it needs.

If you choose to relinquish a parrot to PARS that is not suitable for adoption due to unique medical or behavioral problems such as plucking, screaming, or aggression, it will be placed in our sancturary program when space becomes available.

If you need to find a new home for your bird and wish to surrender it to PARS for placement in a new home...

If you wish, you can print the Surrender Application Form  and the Surrendered Bird History  and mail them to us at the address below.
If you wish, you can write to us at the address below and we will send you a Surrender Agreement Form and a Surrendered Bird History form by mail.

Our first concern in admitting a new bird at PARS is the health and safety of those birds already in residence.
Each bird entering a PARS program must be physically examined and tested for the presense of diseases that present a health threat to the birds or personnel at PARS. In order to offset these initial expenses, a non-refundable admission testing fee of $50 - $75, depending on size and species, is required at the time of surrender. Special consideration will be given in hardship cases.
