So, you want to own a parrot?
Home What we do...
Ok, but before you head out to the petshop or breeder's, you need to know one simple fact. Parrots,in a sense, are lousy pets!
Why would I say that? Think about it for a minute. They are expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain. They are noisy, dirty, dusty, messy, domineering, destructive, demanding, unpredictable, can be mean as a snake, and they can hurt you. Honestly, what more could you NOT want in a pet? It is an indisputable fact that parrots are not the right pet for everyone. It is our intention to inform you of some things you need to know before making a decision that could be one of the most rewarding or most regretable of your life. What you read here is the absolute minimum you need to know to make an informed and responsible decision. Granted, this section focuses on the negatives, the stuff the seller won't tell you, but if you can read through these subjects and can still honestly say that you
can make this commitment, then you just might be a "parrot-person".
Parrots live a very long time. Does 80 to 100 years surprise you?
Parrots are not dogs. Dogs and cats are no primer for parrot ownership.
Parrots are expensive. The purchase price is just the beginning!
Parrots are noisy. Find out what noisy really means.
Parrots are messy. You think a 2 year old is messy!
Parrot = Poop. If you want a parrot, get used to it!
Parrots and Allergies. Got any allergies in your home?
Parrots are destructive! Nature's chewing machines.
Parrots are unpredictable. Just like humans, parrots change as they age.
Parrots bite! Bites are a fact of life with parrots.
Parrots are pushy. Your time is a "must have" to your parrot.
Parrot = Change. Expect some life-style changes.
Parrots make lousy gifts. Parrots should never be given as a gift.
No doubt, it would appear that we are trying to talk you out of acquiring a parrot. Well, as a matter of fact, yes. Unless you are absolutely sure that you understand exactly what you are committing yourself to and you are absolutely sure that you are willing to make this commitment, then that is precisely what we are trying to do. Parrots are not "easy keepers" and the care of one is a very demanding and expensive, long-term commitment.  Please feel free to contact uswith any questions or concerns you might have
about acquiring a parrot.
