Outreach

Every year, thousands of parrots are relinquished to rescues and sanctuaries that are already filled to overflowing with unwanted, neglected, abused, or abandoned exotic birds. All to often, the reason for this happening is that people acquire an exotic bird on impulse without guidance or understanding into just how demanding parrot ownership can be. It's always too messy, too noisy, too destructive or any one of a number of things that parrots do, just being parrots. It's just "not what they expected". One has to ask "How would they know what to expect?"
We believe that educating the public about the problem is the key to stemming this unfortunate tide. To this end, we at PARS conduct an outreach program to make important information about parrot ownership available to the public, hopefully before they acquire a bird. Our goal is to achieve this through...

Information booths at local and regional pet stores, malls, fairs, pet shows, or any other place that will allow us the opportunity.
Presentations by invitation at schools, Boy and Girl Scout meetings, clubs, or church/civic groups.
Opportunities to work with local and reqional mass media resources.
Easily accessable informational resources via this website.
Making ourselves available to talk one-on-one with individuals who are thinking of acquiring an exotic bird.

If you would like to talk to us about a presentation, need help in determining if a parrot is the right pet for you, or need help in selecting the appropriate species, you can  contact usvia email or write to us at the address below.
